My dear sweet wife was diagnosed with Burkett's Lymphoma and successfully went through the 4 long treatments and got to ring the bell afterward...however it did not eliminate cancer and then the kidney failure did her in. On her last day of life, Evan was there all that evening and night always close by and so kind. He showed my wife such great respect, even when she could no longer speak or acknowledge us, he softly told her just what he was doing and even after she took her last breath he whispered to her he was going to check her heartbeat; I was so touched.
We have been blessed with so many good nurses there and could nominate at least two more but on the last two nights, he and A were constantly consoling and helpful. But Evan was there on the last night and the tenderness and kindness he showed to us all and especially my loving wife that I must nominate him for being there when he was needed most...right at the end. I hope and pray he stays there; he is exactly where he needs to be, and I hope that his example can set a gold standard in his peers to have so much giving and kindness. I felt she was in safe and trusting hands and we were so thankful that he showed such respect to her.
I have been crushed by this loss of my dear sweet wife and best friend of 29 years, but I can look back on the most difficult and heartbreaking moment of my life and still see his kind smile and his gentle touch towards the love of my life.
