Evan arranged a surprise party for an oncology patient, Anna, a 31-year old young mother of 5 children. She had end-stage leukemia and Evan wanted to help her celebrate being a mother to her children, aged 3 to 16. He arranged the party to take place in the unit conference room and organized staff to bring in arts and crafts supplies for Anna to play with her children. He also coordinated the purchase of Christmas gifts for her children this upcoming Christmas and made arrangements for Anna to wrap them. The event was a huge success and both Anna and the family were thrilled.

Evan went out of his way to coordinate the physicians, staff, and contact Anna's husband to arrange this party, and he funded much of this event on his own, along with the help of his coworkers. Of particular note is that the party was held on Evan's weekend off, and he left his own family's celebration party to coordinate Anna's party.

"It was a huge success" reports Nurse Manager, Joann Silcox, "Anna spoke to me about how relieved she was to now have wrapped gifts for her children, and proudly showed me the art projects she completed with them".

Evan has demonstrated the values of excellence in caring in this extraordinary effort to make what could be Anna's last party with her family an enormous success.
