I would like to nominate Eva Goff, RN from 2G as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. This registered nurse should receive the award for her clinical skills, compassionate care, exemplary service and for her continued commitment to excellence.

The following are specific examples of the nominees’ extraordinary commitment to patient-centered care:

My father came in for gastric surgery and had Eva for his nurse for the first 2 days. My father had some complications of his kidneys, blood pressure, and pain medications in those first two days and Eva went above and beyond for my father by advocating for proper care. The family was feeling frustrated as well as Eva at the difference of opinion felt by the surgical residents as to what was going wrong and how it could be fixed. Eva really fought hard and stood her ground in what she felt was the problem and the solution.

She checked in on my father all the time, kept a close eye on his urine output, blood pressure, and labs, as well as how he responded to the pain medications prescribed. After fighting for his pain medication to be switched to something besides Morphine (the residents were resisting this idea), my dad turned a big corner in his recovery. Once his pain medication was corrected, his blood pressure stabilized, his kidneys started functioning, and his pain was controlled.

We would like to thank Eva, because if she had given up fighting, who knows where my father would be. I am a nurse here at St. Joe’s so I can really appreciate everything Eva did, the hard fight she fought, and all of the running she did for my father.

So that is why I think Eva should get a Daisy Award. She really cares for her patient and will fight for them no matter what.
