Erin Robbins is not only an exceptional RN, Charge RN, and relief Orthopedic Coordinator...she also goes above and beyond to give our patients and their families quality care that is up to Erin's own very high standards.

...

We recently had a patient who was on the unit; he was a 55 yer old who during the course of his admission was found to have very advanced bowel cancer. He came to our unit post-op. He had a vey strong support system of family and friends. The course of his hospital stay was going to include Super Bowl Sunday. He and his family were discussing how to a have a Super Bowl party while in the hospital and this was important to them especially in light of his diagnosis. Erin was charge the Friday before the big game; after hearing this she took the initiative of getting things in place so that this could happen. She spoke with our unit manager to secure what room would be available and rm xxx was decided to be the best option. Erin enlisted other team members to save the room and decorate it. This was difficult as our hospital was in a "bed crunch", but Erin was sensitive to this knowing if Rm. xxx was the only bed in the hospitial another plan would be looked into. Super Bowl Sunday came and the patient with his company came to the room that was specially set up for them. The patient was so appreciative and in fact somewhat tearful. He thanked everyone he saw on our unit and told everyone who visited him what our staff had done.

Because Erin is who she is she doesn't actively search out the spotlight, but without Erin the party wouldn't have been coordinated. the patient may never know that Erin had to communicate and negotiate to have the room saved, but all he remembers is how special the party was and that he was able to celebrate another Super Bowl with his friends and family, almost as if he wasn't a patient. These are moments that will be priceless to his sons and wife.

...

Erin is an unsung hero of our unit, the quiet way she worked to get this set up for our patient is one of the many examples of how she impacts so many without really taking credit for it. She shows her teammates that when a request for assitance arises, you need to take the next step and investigate how we can make them happen. I nominated Erin because she is the last to take credit for the fantastic work that she does, and I think we forget to say thank you.
