Erin is an excellent nurse who engages with her patients on a personal level and delivers holistic patient centered care. She practices professionally by making sound clinical decisions and establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and families. I recall one time that touched my heart when she described how she went above and beyond to coordinate care for her patient and her patient's husband experiencing a difficult situation.
Erin cared for M.F. who was in the hospital several days on 5NW Geriatrics for abdominal pain related to her gallbladder. The patient's husband was admitted to 5NW Geriatrics during her hospital stay. Her husband was discharged to home with hospice while M.F. remained in the hospital to undergo a surgical procedure. M.F. had difficulty with mobility and needed maximum assistance to get out of bed. Therefore, Erin coordinated with her patient's husband's nurse and ambulance personnel for him to visit her room prior to exiting the hospital. Erin informed M.F. that her husband was being discharged and asked if she wanted to see him before he left. M.F. responded in agreement. When Erin informed M.F. the ambulance arrived to pick up her husband, she was reluctant to see him because she did not want to see him in a poor condition. Erin reassured M.F. that her husband looked great that day and offered emotional support encouraging her to see her husband for potentially the last time. The ambulance personnel brought her husband on the gurney into her room and they visited for over 20 minutes. M.F. was so grateful to Erin for going above and beyond the task of her day to unite this lovely couple going through a challenging time.
