Eric has been one of my charge nurses on the unit for the past 2.5 years and he has been reliable and helpful the entire time. However, there are two instances that stand out to me, in which Eric has helped me personally and several other times when he has gone above and beyond to help a patient or family member.
Eric took me home after I had to drop off my car to the shop when I hit a deer and didn't have a way home (I live 20 miles south of him). He has also changed my tire for me when I noticed I had a flat after work. More recently Eric made sure my patients were covered so that I could be there for what I consider family during their heart catheterization. I can't express how thankful they have been that I could be as supportive of them as I was, and that was all thanks to my team.
I also know that when I work with Eric he will always support me and has my back in the stressful situations. Eric is not afraid to come into the room and call the doctor for you while your hands are busy getting drips titrated or tubing primed. His professional knowledge gives confidence to not only the nurses working with him but to the patients and family members as well. Eric is strong in his faith and many times he is the person that has the conversation with family members about the decisions to make patients a DNR or comfort care, but he is also the person that prays, comforts and is there to ease the pain for the family when the patient has passed. I'm not sure how Eric has kept his compassion all these years but I'm proud to work with him and call him a friend.
