Emma is one very special lady. From the moment my partner and I arrived on the ward she was very friendly and approachable. She explained what would happen as a part of the induction process and helped to keep us calm.
Unfortunately/luckily, upon examination of me, Emma found something on my cervix that she wasn't happy with. If it wasn't for Emma using her initiative and getting a doctor to check, I would never have known that I had stage 1B1 cervical cancer.
Emma helped to keep me calm and reassure me and my partner, at what should have been a very joyous occasion, but what turned out to be a very worrying time. In fact, every midwife and HCA we encountered during our time in hospital was extremely empathetic, listening to me cry, giving me much needed hugs and coming to visit me on their lunch breaks.
Emma was then with me the following day during my C-section and again was amazing. She kept me calm as I was apprehensive and helped me learn to breastfeed in those first few hours. Emma helped keep me strong.
As I said before everyone was amazing and deserves recognition, but Emma saved my life! For that, I will be eternally grateful and will never be able to repay her.
I have since had a radical hysterectomy and can now concentrate on being a mum and watch my daughter grow up.
