My fiance and I were so excited and nervous to welcome our first child into the world. After we got settled into our room, our nurse Emily came in and introduced herself. She was very sweet and really interacted with us on a personal level. We were at the hospital for about two hours when the doctor determined I had preeclampsia and would have to be put on a magnesium drip. I was upset and terrified, Emily assured me it would be okay. I ended up getting very sick, and we decided to go ahead with a C-Section. I was scared, I originally was very opposed to having a C-Section. Emily was there while I had my epidural, and she let me hold on to her while they administered it. At that point, I felt like she really cared, and she felt more like my friend than my nurse. She was there every step of the way, and really comforted us and took amazing care of us.
We were lucky to be under her care for two nights before they moved us over to postpartum recovery. At the end of Emily's shift, she came into our room on her way out and gave me a hug and congratulated us. She also told us what a pleasure it was to take care of us. I really felt like she cared for us as if we were close friends or family, and we were so lucky she was a part of our life-changing experience. We spent five nights in the hospital due to my high blood pressure, and while we received excellent care the entire time we were there, Emily really stood out. And she deserves to be recognized for her compassion, empathy, and her personability. We truly are grateful, Emily is an outstanding nurse!
