Liz is a super nurse. An example of her kindness and compassion for her patients was made apparent to me during a time when a dying child fell gravely ill during her shift. During my rounds, I checked on the little girl who was known to be on end of life care. I watched Liz gracefully care for and attend to the patient. After my shift ended, I went back to 8B to check on the staff and the patient. Liz was caring for her and knew the little girl did not have much more time on earth. I saw Liz care for her as if she were her own flesh and blood. She gave the child whatever she needed and was with her every moment. She tirelessly ran in and out of the room gathering whatever she could to make her more comfortable. She talked to her in a way a loving mother talked to their child. During the night, the mother of the little girl could no longer bear to watch her daughter die. The patient was in her last stage of life, and Liz came to her, held her, and rubbed her arm until she passed. Liz did not want this precious girl to be alone and never left her side. Even in the little girl's death, Liz did not leave. She was there for the family and the little girl at every moment. Liz inspired me to recognize her for her commitment, bravery, courage, and the everlasting impression she made on me and most importantly the impression she left with this little girl and her family. I am truly honored to work with such a kind and giving nurse. She is the epitome of what a nurse should truly strive to be.
