There are many wonderful stories about this Advanced Practice Nurse that could explain why she is an Extraordinary Nurse, but it would require writing a book. Lizzy is always upbeat and optimistic and looking for the right thing to do in every scenario, all while keeping the best interest of the patient at heart. Lizzy attends all Stroke Alerts here at Atrium if she is physically inhouse. During these Stroke Alerts, she is always assessing the scenario and making sure the patient is getting exactly what they need to have the best outcome possible. In the stroke world, everything is based on how timely things are completed (CT Scan, TPA, etc.), and Lizzy is always abreast of that timeline.
There was a recent patient in the ETC who came in and Lizzy was present for the Stroke Alert process. During this alert, Lizzy was very focused on the patient. She was looking at the patient's history, medications, and symptoms, all while directing what the patient was going to need moving forward. A discussion was being held that was starting to veer from the process, Lizzy spoke up and redirected the care path. She is always willing to be the patient advocate and not back down until the patient gets what they need. I could only hope, if my family was in need of stroke services, that Lizzy would be available to direct the care.
