During one of my visits to the ICU, I was told the best story about an excellent patient and family experience that was orchestrated by Liz. There was a very sick patient in ICU with a poor prognosis. The family shared that it was the patient's birthday. Liz is known for doing extra special acts for her patients. This particular act of caring and compassion touched my heart. Liz bought this patient a birthday cake and brought it to the patient's room where she facilitated a birthday party/celebration. The family was so excited and appreciative that Liz went out of her way to make a sad and stressful time one of celebration. As it happens, this patient passed soon thereafter, and this was the patient's last birthday celebration. Acts of kindness, compassion, and excellence in patient care exemplify the Novant mission, vision, and values as well as our practice model. I would like to thank Liz for the wonderful experience and gift that she gave this patient during their last days.
