With 8-week old twins admitted with fractured skulls, I was fraught and unable to properly care for them both on the ward. My husband had to stay at home to look after our 3-year-old child. Both young babies in a bay with much older children also led to my anxiety.
Elise read the situation perfectly and offered lots of 'tea and sympathy'. Whilst my twins were being monitored I was unable to deal with both at the same time which caused me further stress. Elise offered to look after the twins for me when she had quieter moments. This was hugely generous of her as I know all the staff was really busy. The ward rallied round to help me but it was Elise who led the caring, to enable me to try and get a few hours rest and sleep, which was so badly needed.
The whole team was incredible. I felt our twins were safe and cared for but the real difference was having a compassionate hug, sensing when I was about to break and then taking action.
I named Elise 'Saint Elise' as she truly was my angel for the 2 night shifts she worked.
Thank you, Elise!
