Our mum was admitted as an emergency with pneumonia to the Glenfield Hospital. Having never had a hospital admission, at nearly 70, our mum was anxious and upset. Elaine immediately reassured our mum with her kindness and calm manner - showing great concern for her comfort and concerns, whilst also caring for our Dad's fears and upset. Elaine worked quickly to understand why mum was so unwell, whilst maintaining quiet care, that in turn settled our mum.
During our Mum's admission, Elaine demonstrated continued care and accountability by following our mum's progression - she also asked after our families' wellbeing. Elaine showed us that emergency nurses are not just on the 'front line' - they continue to follow their patient's wellbeing. As a family of nurses, we recognize compassion when it shines. Thank you, Elaine, for your kindness. Our mum calls you 'her angel'.
