I would like to nominate Eileen for this award since she was able to get two sewing machines donated to our unit. I have been involved in projects during the weekends and have gotten involved in activities that I enjoy doing. Eileen not only got the machines, but she also brings her own supplies such as fabrics, scissors, needles, zippers, applications, etc. for patients to accomplish their projects. She carries her supplies back and forward when she works in the unit and the patients enjoy it.
*****
Eileen isthe epitome of what holistic nursing care encompasses. I watch her as she plans the weeks ahead for the patients. Worrying about their needs, care, and their growth as an individual. She plots out individual projects for each patient that will maximize their potential and push them to succeed and grow past their expectations for themselves. I watched her work with a patient that was closed off to the world. Every shift she would encourage her to join her sewing group. Eileen would set out materials just for this girl and wait. Finally, one shift, the patient wandered in. Eileen spent hours teaching and praising heras she completed her doggy pillow. I witnessed the boost in the self- esteem of this child. I witnessed her be proud of her accomplishment. Through this experience, the child began to have the confidence and trust to branch out into other activities on the unit. This has been the similar story for many patients that Eileen has had in her care. Eileen goes over and beyond the expectation that is placed on her. I amblessedto witness how lives can be changed for the better when a nurse cares through Eileen's work and dedication. Eileen's dedication to patient care does not stop at the patient level. She gladly teaches and mentors those around her including me. I am a better nurse for knowing and for working alongside Eileen.
