Eddie is a great motivator, cheerleader and he inspired confidence in us. When our two children came to visit, he was patient and kind. He took time with us and we never felt rushed. We enjoyed him so much that we were excited to see him again the next day. I now understand the difference between the excellent job typical of what we have experienced and a DAISY Award Honoree. It was stressful with my husband suffering and in pain. My husband was frozen in place at one point, grimacing and counting minutes until pain decreased. His goal (often passing all milestones with flying colors yesterday) was to shower. It looked clear that was not going to happen.

Eddie came in to greet and assess my husband shortly after his shift began at 3. He was so calm and compassionate. He'd been briefed about the day, but didn't use the term set back or back sliding. I literally felt so relieved he was on the scene that I cried. I'm not sure if I was subtle (I hope so) or if he was just that focused, but our entire day shifted. Eddie commands respect and presents himself so professionally. As a corporate regional manager, my husband responds well to being treated as intelligent and capable. Eddie just flat out told my husband that a shower was his goal and not anyone else's and a shower tomorrow was as good as today. He gave us concrete small steps - my husband was to change position in an hour and at first, eat etc. His tasks were practical, doable and distracting.

What sets Eddie apart and makes him the best in my opinion, is the effect accomplishing something did for my husband. His confidence returned and with pain managed he was willing to move and try again. Within 3 hours, my husband wanted to shower and because it had been removed as an obstacle to be conquered he felt great. I am not naive enough to believe there won't be dips in his recovery, but Eddie's care on Thursday provided a framework and foundation for my husband's entire recovery.

Eddie also works well with others and serves from what I've seen as a role model. He sponsored training a nurse and throughout our stay he has coordinated my husband's care with the nursing personnel preceding and following his shift. I cannot recommend Eddie highly enough for an award blending clinical knowledge with patient care!
