Edna Wilson helped Dr. Givens open the HRH Cancer Center in 1997. At that time, she initiated all the policies and procedures that are still being followed today.
Dr. Givens writes "while she is efficient, intelligent and very capable, she has a very caring heart; she knows her patients by name, along with their personal story, and interacts with them on a truly human, caring level. She has been known to drive to a patient's home to drop off a sample medication or just to check on them. She has set her alarm clock for 4 a.m. just to call a patient to remind them to take a medication in preparation for a test the next day. These things she does without hesitation; if she sees a need, she does her best to meet it. She is well respected by her peers and other physicians who value her judgment and respect her intellect. She is involved in survivor activities for the American Cancer Society's events such as, Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer which demonstrates her interest in and concern for her patients. It is with great enthusiasm and honor that I nominate her for the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses, for if there were ever an "extraordinary" nurse, it is Edna Wilson.
