Ed Diel, BSN, RN, Nurse Clinician III from Perianesthesia was recognized as the April DAISY Award Winner by Chief Nursing Officer Sherry Kwater, MSM, BSN. Ed was nominated by Coletta Herrman, BSN, RN-BC, Nurse Clinician IV. Coletta wrote:

Ed excels as a role model and mentor in compassionate, therapeutic nursing. Advocating for patients is his second nature. To listen to Ed is to hear a seasoned teacher, knowing when and how much patient education is appropriate and needed.

Ed truly has a natural gift, putting his patients at ease both preoperatively and postoperatively. He uses humor to help his patients relax. Before the Children's Hospital was constructed, Ed would bring his young patients from PACU to the Same Day Unit with big smiles on their faces, because Ed has a way of making everyone laugh.

Ed is a team player, and helps his peers as much as he can. If the discharge transport team is busy, Ed always personally gives the patient a wheelchair ride to their driver's car. For the many years I have worked with Ed, he is always in a good mood - happy, upbeat, laughing, and promotes a calm and positive attitude at all times. Ed has a big heart and I am very happy and lucky to have him as my coworker. He is a valuable asset to the Nursing Department at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
