I received a patient from the Emergency Department Tuesday. My report indicated that patient's behavior was result of DT's (detox) and patient had been placed in hallway in ED for observation. Patient arrived to his room confused, restless, with labored breathing and cyanotic toes. Dottie quickly assessed the patient and evaluated him to be more critical than DT withdrawal. Dottie called the MD and updated his status. She also utilized the QRS (Raid Response Team) nurse and had her see patient. Dottie was present at bedside and kept evaluating. When she asked the doctor to come he knew she was accurate in her assessment. The patient was intubated in the room and a critical bed was found.

I want to acknowledge Dottie as a superb Charge Nurse. She is a critical thinker and has excellent skills with an ingrained sense of what patients are likely to experience if they deteriorate. She is proactive for our patients safety and well being. I want her to be aware of how important she is to our floor and to me as my Charge Nurse.
