Doreen is currently participating in a medical mission in El Salvador, where she is donating a week of her time and expertise as an OR Nurse to a selfless cause. This, though amazing, is not the greatest thing Doreen will do this year. As a nurse who is new to the operating room, I had the opportunity to have Doreen as my preceptor. Doreen is the epitome of the title Nurse. Daily I watched Doreen interact with her patients, calming their preoperative fears, consoling their upset family members, and always being a patient champion to ensure the best care the Baywood OR can provide. Over my four-month orientation with Doreen I was astonished by her dedication to all aspects of her patients' care. The reason I am sharing this is that I would like to be the voice for Doreen's patients. So much care occurs after the administration of anesthesia that the patient will probably never know what a great nurse Doreen is or what a great job she does. I, however, do know and I want to take the time to tell Doreen how much I appreciate her. I am just so very grateful to Doreen for the time and care she puts into every patient encounter and wanted to take the time to tell her how amazing she is. I would personally like to thank Doreen for the training she provided me in the operating room. There is nothing I will accomplish in this setting that will not have your fingerprints on it. I would also like to tell you how much I admire you, and your dedication to every nurse, doctor, and most importantly every patient who is in your care. I am a better nurse and person because of you. Doreen is an exceptional nurse and an even better person. Doreen, I know you are too humble to believe that you are as great as you are, but you can't argue with the truth. Everything you do for the patients here at Banner Baywood is proof of that. Thank you for being you!
