Nominated by Tarrah Blevins, RN, BSN, CCRN; employee and niece of a patient that passed away.

Words cannot express my gratitude for Donna. She practices the art of nursing, as evidenced by her passion for her work and a genuine love for her patients and her colleagues.

My aunt was dying from cancer and Donna quickly worked to arrange hospice services and medications needed for her home care. Working in healthcare we all know how slow things can progress on a Monday morning. I arrived at the hospital at 0900 and everything was already in place within a couple hours. Donna was with us through every step and remained attentive to the most important player in the situation: my aunt. I had worries that the medication doses needed to be increased for comfort and Donna quickly reached both the physician and the pharmacy for the necessary adjustments. She answered all our questions in the most professional manner, and she was so comforting to my uncle.

Donna was right there through every phase - to the very end. My uncle insisted on taking my aunt home via his private vehicle. Donna followed my aunt to his truck to prepare for the transport although her presence at this point was not required. My aunt peacefully passed away as soon as we placed her in the truck. I do not know what I would have done if Donna had not been there. Her shoulder was available for our tears and the comfort she provided at that time was beyond exceptional.

Being an employee and a former DAISY recipient, I cannot think of a nurse more deserving of the DAISY Award. I am sure when she reads this she will think, "That is just my job", but she made a lasting impression on me that day. Her outstanding nursing skills and compassion must be praised. Thank you Donna, for your excellent nursing work.
