I have been a weekly patient in the Wound Care Center for about four years, and have been fortunate to be treated by Donna during a majority of those visits. While all of the Wound Care nurses are professional, she has always made me feel like she genuinely cares about me as a person. After each visit, she makes a point to give me a hug, and to let me know she has been praying for me when I get discouraged that I'm not healing fast enough. She has a wonderful sense of humor that always keeps me laughing as she unwraps and rewraps my legs each week, and washes my painful wounds. Even when the doctor gives a discouraging forecast about my legs healing, it is Donna who can sense my discouragement and always gives me positive support. Also, bandaging is truly an art in the Center, and Donna does it the best, which makes a difference in the comfort level of the patient. While she is always professional, she is also willing to share a bit of her personal life with patients as a distraction from painful treatment. In my case, I have been seen at the Wound Care Center every week for far longer than most of their patients, which can be very discouraging. But, without my saying anything, Donna is keenly aware of that, and somehow, manages to keep me laughing. I can't imagine another nurse who truly cares more about her patients and is not afraid to show it than she does. Whenever I do finish my visits to the Wound Care Center, I will never forget Donna and the extraordinarily special care she gave me.
