My mom is here at the Surgery Center. They took her back for surgery but had to delay it because her potassium levels were too low. They could have given it to her through IV, but she would need to be closely monitored to keep an eye on her heart. They weren't going to be able to run the potassium due to low staff. They told us they wouldn't be able to operate today with her potassium that low. Her doctor wouldn't be able to get her in until two weeks, at least. My mom was very upset.
Then, Charge Nurse Donna entered the room. Instantly the tension in the room lightened! She told us that she will do everything in her power to make sure that surgery happened today. She tried to get my mom admitted, but they had no available beds! Only thanks to the relentless efforts of Donna, were we able to move forward with surgery today! Donna rearranged Dr. S's schedule, and she fought hard with the Pharmacy to get potassium. My mom's potassium is high enough thanks to her. She also killed time with us by sharing stories and making jokes.
