In processing the admission information, Derek's father stated that Derek became sick as they were traveling in his tractor trailer, as he is a professional truck driver. He stated that his trailer cab is parked on a street somewhere in Oakland and that he is taking up 2 meters with a sign saying 1 hour parking only. He stated that Derek became incontinent in the sleeping compartment and he needed to wash the sheets so Derek would have a comfortable place to sleep on the trip back to Kentucky. He also shared that he had $9.00 in his pocket and could not cash his electronic paycheck, nor had he eaten in 24 hours. Diane facilitated to park the trailer cab at Swineburn, informed him of the laundry facilities on the 10th floor and provided him with information about the free bag lunches and facilitated cashing his paycheck. He returned to the unit with his truck safely parked, linens washed, money in his pocket and having had something to eat. Diane's compassion and extra effort made a huge impact on this patient and father.
