Diane is one of the most caring, compassionate nurses I have come into contact with. My son coded and was on the ventilator for 11 days. While on the ventilator, Diane would talk to him, exercise his extremities, fluff his pillow, and lotion his extremities. Anything that could be done to help him and keep him from deconditioning she would do it.
She was so kind and compassionate to me and my husband. Diane prayed for my son and for us. When my son came off the vent, he remained on her floor for another two weeks. This individual never once neglected my son and any special care she could give him or do for him.
One evening when Diane was getting ready to go home from her shift, she came in and hugged my son and hugged me and she was crying. She said to us, "I love you guys and I am praying for you." You just don't find many nurses anymore that have that compassion and care and gives that kind of care to their patients. Even on her day off, she would call back to the hospital to check on my son.
Diane did more than just scan his bracelet, give him his medication and walk out, she talked to him to comfort him in this scary time in his life. When my son was moved to a different unit, she made arrangements for him to be able to keep his accu bed. I will be forever grateful to her for how she treated my son and me during his time in the hospital. She is definitely a role model for other nurses to look up to.
