I have worked in the medical field for 35 years. Diana, working alongside her, impresses me the most. She is such a perfect balance of professional, caring, kindness and compassion that I have ever seen. If you observe her you will see amazing things.
One of the patients stopped at my desk and asked for a manager. It was in the evening and the manager had gone home, but she wanted to report Diana. She said;
"It's not what you think, I want to tell her what a wonderful nurse and person she is. My husband got diagnosed with cancer today. Diana hugged us both and we all cried. She cried right along with us. After a while the news sank in, and we started looking for hope and a way out of the doomy feeling. She provided that hope and encouragement as well. What was the worst news of our lives was made more tolerable and hopeful because of Diana's compassion and kindness, and her time."
I smiled looking at this lady. She told me again; "you just don't understand. It meant everything to us to have her there with us that awful day." I thanked her and assured her I would tell the manager.
But, I wasn't surprised by this. With a recent life-changing diagnosis of my own, Diana is one of the first co-workers I told. She comforted me, cried with me and also gave me the hope I needed to realize I need to stay focused and positive and I'm not alone.
It meant the world to me too.
