It was just what he wanted. Dellani took excellent care of not only him but all the family as well.
We have a patient in the CCU. He is at the end of his life and his family is very distraught. His daughter has been an ER Physician for 27 years and has also done Hospice for 14 years. She could not say enough about how kindly they had been treated and how well cared for her Dad has been. She was very complimentary about everyone that had taken care of him, but one Nurse had impressed her and her family for going above and beyond. Dellani Spadling.
Saturday morning this patient had not passed his swallow evaluation. He told Dellani all he wanted was a dinner roll. That is not much to ask when you are going into Hospice. She got him a dinner roll and tore it into pieces. She gave it to him and told him to chew it up and spit it out. She was ready to suction it out if needed. The patient said it hit the spot. It was just what he wanted. Dellani took excellent care of not only him but all the family as well. She answered questions for a family member and kindly answered the same questions from the next family member.
When I talked to the family this morning they again wanted to express their gratitude for the care their loved one has received here at NWTHS. They asked me for the Nurse's name that had taken care of him yesterday. They didn't want to forget her name so they could let everyone know about their experience. They have a long list of people that had gone above and beyond but Dellani was at the top of that list.
