I went to SAMC L&D unit to be induced at 40 weeks pregnant. The following morning, a new nurse came in before her shift even started. Nurse Debbie was so kind and she seemed extremely knowledgeable. She introduced herself and seemed to get control of everything right away. She offered me an epidural for pain relief and told me the plan for the morning. With Debbie, I knew I was in great hands. She constantly checked in on me and the baby and watched my blood pressure. During delivery, Debbie held my hand and encouraged and supported me through the entire process. Finally, after a difficult labor, and a cord around his neck, my baby boy was born using a vacuum to assist him coming out. He was crying and healthy, thank God.
But that was just the beginning of what nurse Debbie did. After 45 minutes after I started feeling sick. I coughed, and I felt like I was bleeding. I started losing more and more blood. They took my new baby to the nursery and Debbie called my doctor from the room phone demanding him to come back. Debbie always acted quickly and remained calm and confident. I remember Debbie calling a code and so many people rushing into my room and then rushing me into surgery. I was so scared that I would never see my kids or my newborn baby again. Debbie stayed with me for the surgery and then transported me to the next room after surgery. She kept me comfortable and informed until I was feeling better that evening.
Debbie was such an amazing nurse and I was lucky she was my nurse that day as I really feel if it was anyone else I would not be sitting at home right now happily rocking my baby and writing this. Thank you nurse Debbie, I really feel like you saved my life.
