The nurses who cared for my husband on a daily basis did so with care and compassion. He was hospitalized for 10 weeks following surgery. They cared for him like a beloved family member. They were always smiling, encouraging, gentle and kind. My husband is a NC State graduate and fan and the nurses would engage him in talks about the team. One nurse even brought a small NC State flag to hang in the room. The nurses talked to him about his family, work, and bucket list. In short, they treated him like family. The staff worked well together and I frequently observed them assisting each other so that the patients' needs were met. They answered our questions and were always patient. The hospital stay was long but these staff members made a stressful situation less so and loved and cared for our family during a difficult, challenging time.
