DAISY Award Nomination for Deborah Marra

Please accept my story involving the extraordinary Recovery Unit nurse, Deb Marra at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. I had the privilege for Nurse Marra to care for me on Wednesday, October 8. I would like to nominate Nurse Marra as an extraordinary, deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. Her nursing clinical skills, especially her compassionate care, only mirrors the surface of how her gifted soul exemplified the kind of nurse and outstanding professional of an asset she is to the hospital. While in the recovery room, I literally couldn't catch my breath. I have COPD. Nurse Marra immediately remained focused, professional, determined, dedicated and safe. She touched my arm; I knew I wasn't alone, and yet she remained, compassionate, and diligent, as if she were sent from the powers above. She not only followed hospital protocol, but to save me, she took immediate action and went above and beyond her administered care. She remained focused and mission driven. She made certain that I know I was safe and everything was alright. I could feel the warm tears rolling down my face with visions of my children scrolling through my mind. She continued, as I heard her voice, to remind me that she was there beside me and during that time her presence alone, working diligently, released any and all fear from within me. Honestly, there are no words or actions or gifts that could possibly be bestowed upon Nurse Marra for her extraordinary, compassionate, and genuine care.

I believe Nurse Marra deserves the DAISY Award due to the fact that her expertise within her profession, human empathy, and dedicated diligence for an individual's care unfortunately so often go unrecognized. This type of award forum is a perfect opportunity to recognize Nurse Marra. Also let us keep in mind that J. Patrick Barnes' family would be so pleased that Nurse Marra is being recognized within her field of caring for people without questioning nor needing a motive. She is dedicated to her profession and compassionate for all patients and their care.

It is evident that Nurse Marra deserves this honor for her highly efficient and consistency that she meets this award's criteria. This too proves that Nurse Marra continues to be one of many blessed and dedicated assets to the St. Peter's Hospital team.

In closing, did I mention that the next day, before Nurse Marra clocked in for her work shift at the hospital, she made it a point to come to my room, peeked around the curtain, looked at me, smiled and asked me how I was feeling. Nurse Marra's work ethic and continued dedication to all patients deserves applause and for her to know and realize that she is appreciated and continues to make a difference to the people she comes in contact with in and out of the hospital. Her outstanding behavioral and social leadership abilities were her highest degree of her proven success that she deserves.
