Deborah Anderson volunteered her time and talent to create a unique and moving work of art. The wall sculpture consists of photographs of the hands of the residents of CLC1 which are then mounted on a photograph of the American flag. This large sculpture adorns the lobby in CLC1.
I have seen veterans come up to the wall sculpture and say "those are my hands" and then identify the hands of their friends. It was beautiful to hear the pride in their voices. Deb stated that there are a lot of artists here in Asheville, NC. She stated she thought that our CLC should reflect the artistic tradition of our city. She also spoke warmly of the veterans' enjoyment and pride participating in this project.
I have numerous times observed Deb's caring and compassionate interaction with the veterans. When doing routine chart audits for pain documentation, I have noticed that her charting is meticulous and reflects the quality of her assessments and her care.
I believe that this work of art is an amazing manifestation of the quality of her nursing care. It is a tribute to our veterans. It is as beautiful as the spirits and sacrifices of veterans. I think this is an extraordinary contribution to our CLC environment and deserves recognition. Deb Anderson has gone above and beyond to nurture and honor our veterans.
