Deanna has provided me with excellent care, in fact, all of the nurses and PCT's have. I had Deanna as my nurse both Saturday and Sunday overnight. I did not sleep well because of nightmares I have frequently. I sometimes asked her for help when I'd wake up.
Deanna helped me to breathe (not literally), to remain calm and hopeful, despite doctors trying to figure out what is going on with me physically. She is an excellent nurse who, in my opinion, shown above all the other nurses. Her skill as a nurse, yes, but to me, a much more important way she helped was by looking at my symptoms and treatment plan through a holistic lens.
I have complex post-traumatic stress disorder. I can be a lot of work by way of looking for my very busy nurse to stay with me for a couple of minutes. With Deanna, I never had to ask. When she had a moment to spare, after seeing her other patients, I was at the top of the list for her to sit across from me and let me vent my anxiety and concerns over why I am here in the hospital. I also really appreciate that she has not judged me for by "battle scars" (I used to self-mutilate), nor does she judge me for asking for help.
As a patient with complex PTSD and a very significant medical history, being taken at my word is a lot safer than having someone decide for me that I am incapable of knowing when I have a right to take up space. That never happened with Deanna, nor anyone of 4-West at Chilton. Thank you for having Deanna on this service, the hospital, and at the Atlantic Health Care System. She really adds to your 5-star ratings if I were to be asked.
Thank you, Deanna. Through my suffering you brought out my sense of humor, helping me stay the course of treatment as they work to figure it all out.
