Dayna does healing touch with patients, families, and staff. We had a young patient receiving leech therapy to whom Dayna was instrumental. This little boy was usually happy and smiling, but as the leech therapy progressed he became withdrawn and anxious. He was nauseous and often complained about his stomach hurting when we had to do anything with him. One evening, the little boy's PICC dressing needed to be changed for the second time because it was saturated with blood. The parents of the little boy were distraught, struggling to comfort their child, but tired and worn down themselves. Dayna was on the floor doing healing touch, and offered to stay beyond her normal hours to help this family. We were able to move the family into a private room where Dayna comforted the patient during the PICC dressing change and performed healing touch on the patient. After getting the lights dimmed and putting on soft music, Dayna proceeded to do healing touch on the parents. Within 1 hour, the whole family was asleep for the first time in several days. The next morning, the mom, with tears in her eyes and in broken English asked us to thank Dayna because she "helped my family" and "she is an angel."
