Dawn is the Clinical Practice Specialist of 3 South, Medical Oncology, and most recently on 6 South, Inpatient Rehab. While upholding her role as an exemplary leader, Dawn possess the core foundation of a Registered Nurse first a foremost. She provides care and compassion to all individuals she meets, including patients, visitors, and colleagues, by putting their needs before her own. Through these attributes, Dawn possesses the qualities of a Transformational and Servant Leader. Dawn's role as a leader is more than just the hours she is required to meet her FTE. She provides a 24-hour resource to our nursing staff by encouraging open communication while she is outside of work. On multiple occasions, the staff has reached out to Dawn while she was outside of work to address issues of patient's safety and problem-solving.
Through Dawn's exceptional critical-thinking and teamwork, she provides a work environment that promotes high levels of staff satisfaction. She has an open door policy and has built trusting relationships with all staff. Dawn is always willing to help her coworkers and can recognize a coworker who is struggling and takes it upon herself to help that person any way she can. Dawn encourages her coworkers to be respectful and aware of cultural diversity in the workplace. Dawn takes pride in upholding the role of mentoring new graduate nursing staff and students by developing a learning plan and preceptor program. She follows through on each trainee she oversees by ensuring he or she has the resources necessary to excel in their new role.
With regards to meeting practice standards and the rollout of new nursing initiatives, Dawn provides a structured program for nursing staff to ensure they are up-to-date with all required education. Dawn not only encourages and promotes continued education for her colleagues, but she also demonstrates the importance of continued education by returning to Graduate School to pursue a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership.
