A patient who transferred from St. Bernard ED with eclampsia required an emergency C-section due to fetal bradycardia. The mother was intubated and sent to ICU after seizure activity and developing a life-threatening condition called HELLP. Her baby boy was admitted to the NICU with an Apgar of 1. Arrangements were made to transport the mother from Ochsner Kenner to Ochsner Jeff Hwy for a transplant workup. David coordinated a team effort of ICU, EMTs, and NICU to allow the mother to spend time with her baby before her transport to Jeff Hwy. David was sensitive to the importance of bonding and the need for our patient to meet her son before transport. David said as soon as the NICU nurse placed the baby on his mother's chest for skin to skin, he immediately stopped crying and was content. Thank you, David, for going that extra step to arrange for this precious time between mother and son, before transport.
