My husband was admitted for bilateral knee replacement which was anticipated to be "routine" surgery. After surgery Darlene felt that R was in distress as the new wireless monitoring system was indicating his oxygen level was dropping and his heart rate was increasing. They contacted his cardiologist who immediately ordered further testing as it indicated pulmonary embolisms. That was confirmed by the testing and followed immediately with medication, etc. Darlene not only acted promptly, which I feel saved his life, but followed through on the rest of his stay at the Medical Center. She would explain to him exactly what was happening and any changes to keep him informed. When I arrived, she would explain again so I knew what was going on also. This was a very traumatic time, you always know things can happen with surgery, but feel it isn't going to happen to you. Darlene was very compassionate and sincere which we appreciated very much. Darlene never got tired of answering our questions and being sure that we understood what was going on. I am pleased though to let you know that due to his excellent care, R is now back to being almost like new!
