Wow, how I can I capture into words the amazing work that Danielle has done time and time again. This morning, I had the opportunity participate in a debrief of a very difficult situation that involved an acute psychiatric patient. The situation occurred a couple of weeks prior. When I informed Danielle of the situation, she immediately swooped in and offered support to staff, the manager, director, and basically anyone who needed it. She took the time to listen to everyone`s story that was involved that day and provide an objective outline of what had happened. She pulled the group together thinking of and reaching out to all possible stakeholders. She led the debrief discussion with kindness, compassion and genuine passion for wanting to create the safest environment for our staff and patients.

I know she does this kind of thing all the time, but she really has been a mentor for me, the managers, the charge nurses, and the staff in many of these difficult situations. She mentors without judgment on whether or not people made a wrong decision in the moment, but rather through a lens of, how can we set people up for success and good outcomes, and, what can I teach next, to the charge nurses and staff. She provides us tools we have never had before in dealing with things like: 1) allegations of abuse, 2) disruptive visitors, 3) disruptive patients, 4) psych patients (through leading the psych task force), and many more.

I`m so grateful she is a part of the SMMC team; we are fortunate to have her. She truly is a DAISY Nurse.
