On Saturday, we arrived at the triage department of the hospital. I was a few days away from my due date with our baby. I was feeling unsure whether my water had broken. This left me feeling a little embarrassed that I was ready to deliver my third child and I couldn't tell if my water had broken or not. Danielle was my nurse in triage. She was great. Our personalities clicked instantly. She listened to everything I had to say, never made me feel silly for not knowing.
It turned out, my water had broken and we were admitted. She said with a smile, "you are going to have a baby today." We talked about kids, life, and interests. She had a way of making me feel very comfortable and at ease. We ended up staying in triage a little longer, being that I was not in very active labor. She stayed with us, she checked in with us, each time with a smile and caring attitude. When it was time to move to the labor and delivery room, she was with another patient and I didn't get to say goodbye and thank you to her. I was disappointed.
Fortunately for us, she was pulled from triage to labor and delivery and she sought us out. She stayed with us until the end of her shift. She continued to make our stay as comfortable and easy as possible (while in labor). She was very intentional about making sure that I was able to voice what type of care I needed and she helped to ensure that to happen. Our baby was born an hour and a half after her shift ended.
The next day at the end of her 12-hour shift, she came to our couplet care room, for no other reason than to check in and see how we were. She made for a great labor experience. We are so thankful Danielle was our nurse for the day.
