I am writing in response to the excellent care I received from Dan while I was a patient in hematology, I do not know his last name but I will never forget the care that he provided.
I entered the Emergency Room and was discharged two days later. I had vertigo and nausea and after a brain CT and blood tests it was discovered that I had Immune Thrombocytopenia ITP and was transferred to hematology.
The care I received from all staff from custodial to high level medical was beyond exceptional. I am singling out Dan because of his outstanding presence on the team. He was described by nursing members as a "resource nurse" and I honestly do not how that title fits with the medical hierarchy. Not to cast aspersions on younger staff, Dan brought maturity, knowledge, and willingness to go beyond the ordinary in patient care. He was helpful in providing readouts from UMass Care sheets which provided an insight, allowing me to better understand conversations with my doctors.
Dan approached his care with humility and humor, offering a warm opening greeting and constant check-ins to ensure my well being.
UMass Memorial hospital is fortunate to have such a caring medical team in its employ and particularly to have Dan as a very valuable resource person.
