My mom was admitted to the hospital for observation. She is 96 years old and has never had any memory loss or signs of hallucinations. This is something that seemed to have happened overnight. Dan was my mom's nurse upon arriving to the floor. He was very kind and supportive.
I went home around 8:30 that evening. Around 10:00 I received a call from my mom. Dan came on the phone to update me and gave the phone back to my mom. She spoke for a brief time and hung up.
Unknown to her or Dan, she did not hang up the phone. I stayed on the line for over 20 minutes listening to her and Dan. This is when I feel true colors come out in a person. Dan was so kind and respectful to my mom. He sat and listened to her far-out stories and replied to her just as if he was family. This went on for the whole time I was on the other line. I feel Dan really went above and beyond the call of duty to make my mom feel like he cared. And more importantly, you can tell he was really listening to what she had to say (even though most of the things didn't make sense). This is all so new to our family. I can't tell you how helpless we feel.
Knowing someone who truly cared and was so kind was by her side - he took calls and gave me updates as if I was there. This little statement says nothing about how wonderful this RN is. Again, doing and saying the things he did (when no one was listening). He is amazing.
Thank you so much, Dan!
