During a recent visit to your facility for surgery, I was delayed by several hours post-surgery in getting a room for overnight observation. That delay was spent in the recovery room. Dana Murphy, the manager of the PACU, attended to me during that time. When I needed warm blankets, she brought them. When I needed something to drink, she brought it.
As the afternoon wore on, she found me lunch- a sandwich, chips, a cold ginger ale- whatever would make me comfortable. I noticed the "RN" on her uniform and thought maybe her attention and devotion to me, and multiple and numerous other patients were perhaps accessory to her primary nursing duties. I remember telling her, "You're an RN; if you have other duties to take care of, you don't have to look after me."
Dana replied, "This is my job, taking care of you, so let me know if there is anything you need." That was pure, positive dedication to those who were dependent on her. After I was released, Dana called me at home to check on me, an act far above and beyond her duties in PACU. What more could the DCH Health System ask for? Dana deserves the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses- she truly is a valuable asset to your organization.
