Dana treated my mother before her craniotomy. I and my entire family found Dana extremely comforting before my mother's surgery. Given the fact that my mom was about to undergo a major operation to remove a tumor, Dana was calm, collected, and genuinely interested in not only my mother's well-being but also that of my family. I was brought to tears when Dana leaned in to hug my mother, telling her that she would be just fine and that she had so many people that loved her and cared for her.
As my family walked back to the surgery waiting room, everyone commented on how good Dana had made us feel about the impending surgery. We were all anxious and frightened, but Dana recognized this and did everything she could to make us comfortable while we waited in the pre-op room. She continually asked if we needed extra chairs, if we needed any water, or if we had any questions she could answer. I know that the day would have been markedly different for me if we had not had Dana with us before my mother's operation. She provided much-needed warmth and positivity on a day where we were all extremely frightened and apprehensive. Her empathy was apparent, and it was complemented by her professionalism. I am sure this is not the only time she has had this effect on a family in Pre-op. Her sincere effort to comfort us made a world of difference. My family found Dana's efforts to be above and beyond what is expected.
