I had the opportunity to witness a profound act of kindness, selflessness, and humanity that so beautifully tells the story behind the art of nursing. Dana and two other nurses responded to this request with compassion, focus, and honor. They were able to navigate extenuating challenges to ensure that a bereaved mother and father had time together with their child. So many times nurses make a tremendous difference in others' lives and may not even know it. I felt it was important to share this story and remind Dana that she is making a profound difference every day.
***
Dana joined the CVICU 7 years ago as a clinical nurse and currently serves as chair of our preceptor committee, is a relief clinical team leader, a member of our CUSP and MET teams, and recently completed ECMO specialist training. She is an extremely caring person by nature and a strong patient and family advocate. Her effort to comfort a grieving family as well as support and lead other team members in the experience is a shining example of the type of nurse Dana is. We're proud to have her on our team as an excellent role model for all nurses.
Thank you, Dana, for your ongoing commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
