Over the weekend, Dan displayed superior critical thinking and action during an emergent situation. Due to his swift action and attention to detail, Dan was able to prevent a potentially life-threatening situation. Thank you, Dan! You are a hero to your patients and your co-workers.
The patient had a ruptured pseudoaneurysm in his groin. Dan came in and took over for an NA who applied pressure and yelled for help when the bleeding was noted. With the help of the staff, Dan was able to find the pulse inside of the open wound and applied pressure while staff and internal med physicians tried to stabilize the patient and reach the cardiovascular surgeon. His quick critical thinking, assessment skills and ability to stay calm under pressure was the saving grace for this patient who eventually went to surgery for repair. The surgeon who worked on this patient came up afterward and told Dan, "You saved this patient's life". The physicians and staff working with Dan that day all felt this act was a true example of "Doing what's best". Femoral artery bleeds can be very scary. Dan did an awesome job and we are all very proud.
