First and foremost, Cindy is a compassionate and dedicated nurse. She is a leader on her unit as well as at the hospital level. Cindy is a clinician on the inpatient oncology unit at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. She encourages all nurses that she comes in contact with, whether it is teaching a new nurse to insert an NG tube, or organizing the nursing staff to put on boas and sing to a patient that is getting her last chemotherapy treatment. According to Dr. K, "Cindy is one of the "go to" individuals for our oncology patients. She has a long history of dedication to patients afflicted with gynecologic and breast cancer and delivers care in a comprehensive and compassionate manner."
In addition to her leadership skills on the unit, Cindy is also the chair of the Professional Practice Council (PPC) at Magee. She is an unassuming leader that is just as enthusiastic about patient care as she is about the nurses at Magee. Cindy shares her enthusiasm for nursing by organizing The DAISY Award within Magee, enabling her to recognize and reward exceptional patient care. Cindy works with Unit Director's to encourage The DAISY Award program and utilizes the PPC to promote the program by decorating and making sure that each area has a nomination box.
For the hospital, Cindy also organizes a yearly team to participate in the "Climb for Air", a fundraiser for the American Lung Association. She coordinates fundraising bake sales and practice stair climbs to prepare team members for the climb. She also helps to organize Magee staff for the Oncology Fundraising Events of "Walk for the Whisper", a fundraiser for the NOCC (National Ovarian Cancer Coalition) and the "Race for the Cure", a fundraiser for the Susan Komen Foundation.
Overall, Cindy is one of the most positive people, committed to making a difference for patients by promoting the profession of nursing.
