I came to your unit for a diagnostic colonoscopy. I was very scared as I have never had this procedure and I was worried it might be cancer. On that day, I was trying very hard to be brave and not break down. The first nurse came in and had two failed attempts at starting an IV. Due to my dehydration, starting an IV is very difficult as my normal veins are tough as it is.
When Cindy walked in and asked me how I was, I replied "Okay", the same response I had given everyone that morning. Cindy actually stopped and looked at my face. Immediately she said, "Oh no you're not, are you?" That brought a flood of tears, as I truly was not okay. Cindy stopped what she was doing and gave me a hug. She then let me talk and got a Kleenex to wipe away my tears. She took her time with me and started an IV without any problem.
Cindy represents everything a nurse should be. She is the kind of person who I wish we could clone. Cindy focused on me instead of the computer screen. CoxHealth is lucky to have such an inspiring nurse on staff. I am an RN, and Cindy has inspired me to work harder at making patients feel like a human, not a case.
