Crystal's demonstration of exceptional service is an ongoing and wide-ranging one. She wears several hats around Regional West Medical Center and she happily takes on additional responsibilities, while always striving to do the right thing for her patients, her employees, and the facility as a whole. Her consistently positive attitude and optimism are evident every day, to anyone fortunate enough to work with her.
She currently serves as an SPD manager in the main hospital operating room, an SBSC manager, and even takes on the responsibilities of a circulating RN. She was brought over to the main hospitals SPD as a result of increasing tray errors and negative patient surgical outcomes (delays, cancellations, etc.). In the 9 months during which she has served as SPD manager, tray errors have dropped from nearly four errors per day to fewer than three errors per month. This information alone demonstrates her desire and ability to care for all patients, regardless of whether or not she has direct contact with them.
Not only has departmental performance improved drastically, but morale in the department while under her leadership is at an all-time high. She has put in countless hours, both from work and from home, to ensure the work environment is as positive and enabling as possible for her employees. She has, single-handedly, made several changes to the department to provide the best possible advantages for her employees. Set schedules were implemented to help improve work/life balance. Responsibilities which were burdensome and distracting from the department's intended work were given to departments better suited to handle those tasks. This has allowed employees to focus on decontamination, assembly, and sterilization to provide the best possible product to all surgical patients.
Finally, she does all of this thankless work without any expectation of retribution. She rarely, if ever, receives as much as a "thank you" for the hard work she puts in. It cannot be stated emphatically enough how much time, energy, and work she gives to this healthcare facility. She often spends time working and helping others, which could otherwise be time spent with her husband and children, or with her friends.
We, as a small percentage of the people on which she has a positive impact each and every day, would like to recognize her for the large sacrifices she has given and continues to give. Because she gives so much to her job, her employees, her patients, and this healthcare facility, everyone else is able to enjoy a more efficient and positive workplace. Crystal, thank you for all you have done and continue to do!
