My father was a patient of NCH, 6 South with prostate cancer that we had recently learned had spread to the bone/spine. He had also recently been hospitalized for pancreatitis and on this admit, we learned there were two tumors in his brain. We were lucky enough to have Corrine Hunter take care of him (and us) two days in a row. Being in the healthcare field myself, I wanted to take the time to thank her. I know how stressful it is, and how much of ourselves, our lives, we sacrifice and how much a thank you means.
Corrine went above and beyond, taking care of my dad, and of us, keeping us informed on his condition, letting us know when the doctors were there so we wouldn’t miss them, arranging for hospice, and no question or request was too much to ask. She really took the extra time. It is extremely difficult to be on the other side, to be the patient, patient’s family, and even though you know you are making the right decisions, it is very hard to actually proceed, to follow through with them.
My father was transferred to Joanne’s House (Hospice) in Bonita Springs and passed away two days later. Corrine made such a horribly difficult time that much easier to bear for my family and myself, and for that we will always be grateful. I hope I can embody some of her qualities in my own work as a health care provider, as she has inspired and motivated me to do so. Her skill, knowledge, kindness, compassion and patience are a great asset to her patients, her coworkers and your organization.
