I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude for the amazing care and attention Corinne gave me on the 4 West surgical floor at Harrison when what began as a fairly straight forward operation became complicated with my stay extending to two weeks. During this scary time for my family and me, the staff did a fine job of taking care of us. I want to say that while the nurses in general, follow the doctor's orders well, Corinne does so much more and it is noticed and appreciated. She asks questions and listens carefully to the responses, she observes while she reads between the words. She contacted the doctor when she felt a change in orders would be helpful. Corinne made me feel secure and cared form and on top of that, her smile and accent is absolutely infectious which goes a long way to help the healing process.
It takes a special person to work a hospital surgical floor night shift and be able to bring a ray of sunshine into the dark room. Corinne was that person! I remember those nights when Corinne would come in with medications, dressing changes, injections and other procedures in a kind of dreamy, good way, despite the fact that I was actually in terrible pain. Corinne had a way of making me laugh, or telling stories which was both distracting and made it a lot less frightening. Those stories about patients being disturbed all night long was never an issue when Corinne was a night nurse on duty.
When her work week was over and she came in with the new shift nurse to "hand me over", she asked to speak with me alone because she wanted to say goodbye, encourage me to continue healing, and say that she was hoping and expecting that I'd be home by the next time she came to work.
