Compassionate, patient, sympathetic, enthusiastic, and a hard worker are the first words that come to mind when I think of my son's primary nurse Cori Iten. My son was in the NICU for 105 days and we had many nurses. Out of all of the nurses that have cared for my son Cori is by far our favorite night nurse. Don't get me wrong there are so many nurses in the NICU that are amazing but Cori shines at the top of them.

Cori goes above and beyond her job all the time and never seems to have a moment to rest, as she is frantically stocking and cleaning the room if she is not working with a baby. The other thing that sets her apart from other nurses is that she also took care of me. When I first came to the NICU my son was very premature and I was scared to death. Cori talked with me, explained everything and answered every question that I had. Around Christmas my son was having a hard time and we were scared he was not going to make it. On Christmas day Cori called to check on my son. I had a ton of questions for her and was so glad that she had called. She was the one nurse we could ask any question to and not feel stupid. Cori thoroughly explained everything in a way we could understand.

Cori was always there for us and one of the best gifts that she gave to me was the feeling of security of leaving the hospital when she was working. I was a parent who was always at the hospital and that can take a definite toll on a person. Cori encouraged my husband to take me out on a night when she was working, so he took me to a comedy club and we had a wonderful time. So from then on I started going back home to Wisconsin on nights we knew Cori was working. We knew that our son was in the best care with her. My family always knew when I was coming home because it was based on Cori's work schedule. My Mother would not ask me when I was coming home; instead she would ask "when is Cori working again?" I feel so blessed that we were able to have Cori as a primary nurse and when I heard about this award I knew she was exactly what this award was about. To me, Cori Iten is a DAISY Nurse.
