On September 10th I had emergency surgery. I spent 3 days in ICU. My first night my nurse came into my room with a warm smile and said, "hi my name is Colleen and I will be taking care of you." I knew right then that she was going to be special to me. My first night was the worst, as far as pain and discomfort. Colleen did her best to make me feel better. She brought me warm blankets, ice packs, when I need them and extra pillows to make me more comfortable. She even helped me roll onto my side because my back hurt from lying on it all day. It was early in the morning I couldn't sleep, and I didn't want to watch TV. I asked her if she could find music to play. She went out of her way and found what I wanted to listen to. Colleen would come into my room and check up on me even when she wasn't paged. One time I woke up and looked towards my door and there she was, just standing their checking to see if I was getting any sleep. Any time Colleen had to take my blood or flush out my IV line she always explained to me what she was doing before she did it. One-time Colleen came into my room and I was close to tears. She held my hand when I needed a hand to hold. We got talking about where we lived, our love for dogs, and planting tulip bulbs in our flower beds. She did what she could to get my mind off my pain. Colleen left a special place in my heart and her kindness and caring shines through her love of being the wonderful nurse that she is. Colleen was so special to me and I felt like I had just made a new friend. She is a remarkable nurse.
